Krill Oil
Krill oil and Fish oil are comparable dietary sources of n-3 PUFAs. N-3PUFAs are polyunsaturated fatty acids. These acids help in metabolic syndrome prevention and the treatment. Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors that that occurs together and increases the risk for coronary artery disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. The experiment done to test the difference between krill and fish oil was done on mice. The scientists in Norway divided male mice into three different groups. The first group of mice was being fed a high fat control died. The other two groups of mice received the high fat diet along with fish or krill oil. The experiment lasted six weeks in which the feeding results were ready. The results showed that the krill oil was associated with lower levels of triacylglycerol’s; these results were not seen with the fish oils. The fish oil group though, did show significantly improved cholesterol levels. Triglycerides and cholesterol are both part of the lipid family. Triglycerides are a type of fatty lipid and are found in the blood. Having high triglycerides increase your risk for heart disease so using krill oil to lower it is very healthy and good. Cholesterol is spilt in two forms of lipids: HDL and LDL. These stand for high density lipids and low density lipids. HDL cholesterol is considered a good cholesterol and LDL is considered bad for you. LDL is what the study is referring to as being lowered. LDL is bad because it can stick to the walls of your arteries. This can turn deadly when all of the plaque builds up and there is a blockage. HDL cholesterol helps remove the LDL from your blood. Throughout the study it was determined that krill oil and fish oil were comparable with being metabolic syndrome prevents. However, krill oil proved to have a greater potential to promote lipid catabolism.
This study affects every person. Everyone should be aware of their triglycerides and of their cholesterol. The study gives humans a better advantage of keeping those levels under control and lengthening their life span. Those who have high levels of triglycerides and cholesterol or who have any metabolic syndromes are especially affected by this study. The krill oil will improve their health and lives. This topic was picked because it helps promote the importance of keeping lipids under control. This is an everyday normal preventive measure that needs to be taken. Heart disease and other problems are common and are preventable. The need for knowing about krill oil and other lipid reducers is for helping lengthening and improving lives. The research is definitely good and there is no reason to be against it. It affects everyone so yes it affects our group members.
Overall there is little bad to be said about krill oil. A point that was found while researching was that the products tend to be watered down and so they do not work as advertised. It is also much more expensive than fish oil. Pros to be highlighted would be that it significantly lowers LDL cholesterol and that it also lowers triglycerides.
